New District Calendar for Start of 2013-14 School Year

Beginning with the 2013-14 school year, the first day of class for all OUSD students will be Tuesday, August 20, 2013.  The slightly earlier start date is a result of a new district-wide calendar unanimously approved by the OUSD Board of Education.  The change was made during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, March 13, 2012.

school_calendar.jpgOther minor changes regarding the revised calendar beginning in 2013-14 include a shorter Thanksgiving Week holiday and an end to the first semester at the winter break (December 20, 2013).  The last day of instruction for students will be June 4, 2014.

The district asks that all OUSD families please take note of these changes in order to plan accordingly for the start of school in August 2013.  For questions regarding the calendar change, please call 760-966-4008.

WELCOME TO OCEAN SHORES HIGH SCHOOL

Ocean Shores High School is a continuation high school serving approximately  220 students in grades 10-12.  All students are approximtately 16 years old.   Most of our students are referred to our school from the two comprehensive high schools in the Oceanside Unified School District.

Once here, students are given the opportunity to work in a smaller learning community designed to provide students with the necessary tools to"CATCH UP" on their credits and earn their high school diploma. The "Shores" is a place where students find their place in our family community and are given an "OPPORTUNITY, HOPE, and a SECOND CHANCE."  Students are expected to R.E.A.C.H. for their goals in graduating high school, attend college or a university or choose a career path that promotes success.

It is our mission to make sure students are successful and they recover credits, improve their study habits and be given the chance to return to the comprehensive high school if they choose to do so. This may not always happen, but we do emphasize the importance of hard work, the significance of perfect attendance and the worth of arriving to school everyday on time! We strive to keep our campus safe and orderly and enforce strict discipline and attendance polices. We want our students to know that we care about them and we value them, and help guide them to the path of success. It's about the journey, not just the destination.

ABC Blocks.gifFinding Success at the Shores is as simple as ABC

A- Academics/Attendance: Students must maintain a 2.0 grade point average. Students must attend school everyday from 7:25 a.m. -12:50 p.m.

B- Behavior: Students must follow all school and district rules

C- Credits: Students can earn up to 27 credits per semester.
